Weekend Distraction- Donnie Vincent's New Video Series

As if we didn't already know that the weekend was knocking on our door and the temptation to breath the fresh air of the outdoors was not sitting and the sill of our office windows, I have a little treat for many of you who might need a little something to get you through the day.  After creating a new DVD entitled "The River's Divide" where Donnie Vincent hunts a monster buck called Steve, he is teasing us with his great cinema skills as he prepares to release a new film series. The most exciting part of the film comes at about minute 3:35, I could hardly contain myself with excitement.  Check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.

Contour Cameras and why you should ditch you Gopro #Contourccp

If you follow some of my other Social media feeds Twitter, Facebook and mainly Instagram you will have seen my posts of a grip of Contour Camera gear. A little over 6 months ago I was asked by Contour to join as a CCP Operative gathering footage and making films of my exploits in Hunting and Flyfishing. So need less to say I obliged and join the team. 

I have gotten a lot of questions about why I have been using Contours over Gopro camera for the past few years and I thought I'd lay it out here in three simple points. 

1. It is sleek and compact- Contour Cameras are long and narrow instead of wide and flat like a GoPro. This makes the vertical or if you were facing it a smaller profile. It helps if you are mounting it to a bow, gun, dog or your head. You don't have a box sitting in front of you, it's small more manageable. 

2. I believe there are more places to mount the camera being that it has to mounting systems. The "Contour System" of two channels that lock onto their proprietary system an the universal 1/4" threaded female adapter that allows you to mount it to and tripod, roll cage mount or anything else you'd find in a camera store. Simply it mounts to your head better, gun better and any flat object better. 

3.  The biggest thing to me is the adjustable lens that you can rotate to get your camera level, regardless of how your mount is secured. Simple it you mount it to a tree that is leaning or on uneven ground with a tripod you don't need to sit there and mess with the adjustments on the mount, simply rotate the lens till it is level. 

Well there you go, Contour is similar to a Gopro in a lot of ways, but is way better in so many more.

Nature Boy Designs- I got a package!!!

So good times in So. Cal today, well other than the rain, it is a good day.  I got a package fooNot just any package I got a package from Nature Boy Designs of Northern CA packed with goodies.
To be exact, a Size Matters Shirt, two 550 Wader Lanyards and a Bombproof Rod Tube.  Happy days are here again!  I'm headed up to film in a few weeks so I guess you can say I know what I will be taking with me.  Good stuff and give Nature Boy Designs a "Like" to be in the know.

Frozen Eyes, Frost Bite and Tall Tales

So I have eluded to the fact that I am now working on a flyfishing film that will be released later this summer about the Owens River and the towns that it runs through. So not to spoil the whole project plot line here is at least how the first weekend of filming went, In three sections.

To say I had a smooth start to the weekend would be a lie, as I dropped the wife and kids off at the in-laws house I noticed my chocolate Lab Boone was drooling uncontrollibly. His kennel in the back was soaked to the hilt with drool, so much so that it warranted a check from the vet up ther to confirm he was okay. Long story short, he is teething, has an ear infection and as it turns out doesn't like to ride in the back of the truck, hence the drool. So after we wasted 2hrs of prime fishing and filming light we were off. This time he was in the passanger seat sleeping, relaxing and well sleeping some more.

By the time we got up to Lone Pine, CA it was early afternoon and I did what I came to do, find some new friends and film them. I met Lee through a small sporting goods shop, who sent me to the hardware store who knew Lee because he had retired from working there a few years earlier. To say Lee was a character is an understatement and to say that he was passionate and knowledgable about the outdoors and fly fishing does not evem begin to describe his wealth of understanding about the valley where he lived. From the high alpine lakes where trout of every kind roam and grow to the hidden valley ponds where the bass, carp and cat fish mature untouched my most humans unless you are privy to their secret locations.

One of the most astounding things to me is his knowledge of the insects and eating habits of Bass and trout. Not only is he a outdoorsmen, he is also the curator of the Southern Inyo Museam, which houses his personal collection of local taxidermied critters and bugs. He had preserved almost every trout top 100 menu favorites and all of the life cycles of each of them. It was a truely amazing evening with him learning about the valley, the people and about the lakes, rivers and ponds that he calls home.

Next Boone-doggle and I headed to our campsite at Tinemaha Creek Campground for out first night of 13 degree temps and funny that was the warmest that it got at night for us. I have decided that I am going to be making a sleeping bag for Boone so that, One he doesn't freeze while we are fishing and Two so he doesn't always curl up to me at night and let one fly right in my face, but that is a whole nother story in itself.

Following the river back in time.....

I am gearing up for a short but intense trip this weekend to the Owens river and more specifically The Gorge, The Lower, The Upper and big water drifting section that is near bishop which will go nameless.  I am really going up for a few reasons,

1.To Drift my Diablo PS down the Owen River and give the Adios a trial run on the rapids loaded with camping gear, food, gun, fly stuff and well a big fat bearded guy.
2. To hook up with David at Sierra Trout Magnet  and shoot some interviews and fishing scenes.
3. Meet up with another buddy of mine up in Crowley Lake, Tom Long, and then head to Hot Creek for a lip ripping run.
4. Lastly to REALLY unwind a little and just be myself and film some nice clear, clean and smooth mountain water.  I have been staring at brown muck in the canals chasing carp all fall and I would like to be able to see the bottom of something as I fish.


  So if I can accomplish any two of these tasks it will be a success for me, and truly if I get to one of them and just take a little siesta on the side of the river bank I will be just as happy. Funny how priorities change when you are stressed and tired.  Sleep first, fish second. Okay Fish first, sleep second, fish third.

  I know I promised a big unveiling last week, but honestly it was a little premature and I need to work out a few of the details first.  I promise as things develop or really after this weekend I think I will be sharing some pretty cool stuff with you all.  I will say thing though I am working on a full length film right now with my good buddy Blair and things are progressing well.  So today was short and sweet, but good.
